For Such A Time As This

“If you remain silent at this time, deliverance will arise from another place… And who knows that you have come to this royal position for such a time as this”

(Es. 4:14). Brothers and Sisters in Christ, have you ever felt caught between a rock and a hard place? An impossible spot that requires you to make a life-and-death decision for yourself and countless others. This is the story of Esther, one of the Bible's most notable and courageous women. Her decision to live in obedience and faith in the Lord is still recognized today. Known as the Feast of Purim, it is a joyous celebration the Jewish people commemorate each year, recognizing God's mighty hand of deliverance.

Faced with impossible odds, Ester was challenged to step out in faith at the risk of losing her own life to save her people. As queen to King Xerxes, God strategically placed Ester at the right place and time for a unique circumstance. God had a plan for Ester's life for His Kingdom's purposes. God has a plan for your life for His Kingdom purposes. Her response is obedience, humility, and a solid reverence for God! What will your response be when God finally asks you to step out in faith? Seeking God’s wisdom and intervention, Esther calls for a “3-Day fast and prayer amongst the Jewish people” (Es. 4:16).

Here, we are given a front-row seat at the behind-the-scenes look of Satan's ongoing struggle against the will and purposes of God, especially against the coming promised Messiah. Satan knows the arrival of Jesus into humanity was based upon the existence of the Jewish people, so it is here that we witness God’s intervention and the salvation of His chosen people.

God is sovereign over all this world, and no matter the circumstances in our lives, we are assured that the schemes of wicked men or Satan himself will not hinder His plans. Just as Haman plotted against the Jews, so has Satan set himself against God and His people. Just as Haman is defeated on the gallows he built for Mordecai, so does Christ defeat Satan on the Cross.

Esther’s character amid such a trial can inspire all of us; she proved to be a godly woman with a strong preference for God and willing obedience. She shows us that by showing humility in our circumstances, no matter how difficult they may be, God can also use us for His purpose, and we, like Ester, can be a blessing to others. In our trials and tribulations, caught between our rock and hard place moments, we would do well by imitating her Christ-like sacrificial character. Who knows, but God, that you find yourself in your current situation or position, no matter how unbearable it seems, maybe for a particular time such as this. Consider fasting and praying about your situation and see what God has in store for you. Let's keep our Jewish Brothers and Sisters in our prayers and pray for peace in Israel.
